Reminder: OpenMotif 2.4+ User Requirements

Now that OpenMotif 2.3 has been released, we would like to encourage all OpenMotif developers to share their thoughts on the future of OpenMotif in this forum. The OpenMotif Development Group will be looking at these suggestions when they are planning the development of the next version of OpenMotif.

OpenMotif 2.4 User Requirements

Hi,
The purpose of this forum is to provide a mechanism to gather feature/functionality requirements from the Motif user community for the next release of OpenMotif.
There are a lot of possibilities. Some of the ones that have been requested in the past include:

GUI modernization - this encompasses everything from providing a replacement for the file dialog to style/color changes to adding themes.

xm-demo app

I suggest adding a simple xm-demo app similar to gtk-demo that get installed by default and showcases the motif widget set and would a great sanity check on a working installation.

I know there are a number of test apps that can be built from the source, but a single point-of-reference you can check to see if motif is installed and working (on any system) would be beneficial.

Where is the documentation?

Last night I tried to download the frame maker documentation but it was not there. In the morning I already tried to get the pdfs but no lack. For OM 2.3beta2.

And as a user requirement I would like to have a decent eclipse distribution with motif SWT but with scrollbars controllable by the mouse wheel.

I also wish that tcl motif was revived, but I think it is left to the community(in other words me).

Thanks for your time. Motif ROCKS!!! I use Lesstif (because it is open source and I like it a lot).

X/Motif and cygwin

I have noticed that X/Motif is not part of the cygwin packages. Why is that?
Would not including X/Motif at least provide a path to compile, link, and
run X/Motif programs on a Windows machine? I don't see how or why anyone would write new software if it can't run on Microsoft Windows platforms.
